Sweating is a natural reaction of the body to intense physical effort, fever during illness and other factors that force the heart to beat faster: stress, anger, fear. In order to protect itself from overheating, the body stimulates the production of sweat, thereby eliminating excess heat through million sweat glands covering the entire body. Sweating is influenced by genetics, weight, human age cycles, for example, menopause, various medicines, some foods such as alcoholic beverages, spicy food. In some cases, various diseases can cause sweat gland disorder resulting in hyperhidrosis or otherwise – excessive sweating.
Hyperhidrosis is a disease that causes great physical and psychological discomfort. People who suffer from this disease are subjected to excessive sweating which cannot be removed by antiperspirants or frequent washing. It is believed that hyperhidrosis is caused by increased nerve activity, resulting in damage of the specific nerves belonging to a group called the sympathetic nervous system. Hyperhidrosis can damage certain specific areas, usually the armpits, palms, soles, face, groin, waist, back, or cover the entire body.
Signs of hyperhidrosis
More than normal sweating;
Sweating occurs even relaxing, not having a fever;
Sweat spots appear constantly on clothing;
You have to clean your hands and face constantly;
There is a need to change socks, take a shower a few times a day;
A sharp smell of sweating appear – the skin becomes white, soft and swollen causing a higher risk of bacterial or fungal infections;
There is a discomfort to be close to other people, handshake.
According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society, the research conducted has shown that nearly 3% of people around the world, i.e. about 230 million, suffer from this disease, but this disease is treated.
The research conducted by scientists and doctors has found out that one of the safest and most effective means of treating excessive underarm sweating that helps to forget the problem for a long time is botulinum toxin injections, which can be applied in case of excessive sweating in the armpits, soles and palms. Scientists have proven that botulinum toxin injected in small amounts into excessive sweating areas improves the condition of the skin and significantly reduces sweating. Injected, it blocks the nervous impulses in the skin sweat glands, thus the activity of the sweat glands is inhibited and the production of sweat is stopped for up to half a year. This procedure is extremely demanding during the warm season, when almost everyone, especially men, suffer from excessive sweating.
Everything in the body takes place through the use of the nervous impulses and neurotransmitters which transmit commands to carry out certain actions or begin some processes. One of the neurotransmitters is acetylcholine which release is blocked by botulinum – a small amount of the preparation is injected into problem areas with a thin needle stopping the transmission of the nerve impulse to the sweat glands, so the sweat glands stop to secrete sweat. Patients can enjoy the result up to one year, then the procedure should be repeated.
